“CHRYSALIS”.

Chrysalis is an exhibition of multimedia works on paper exploring concepts of cosmological origin, cause and effect, human response to chaos. Marlborough Gallery, London 2022.

SYNOPSIS.

A butterfly's wing is charged with the power to change the course of reality. A single flap conspires over time and space to form shifting storms that reshape possibilities for life in the universe. However, before a creature can attain such power over its environment, It must first overcome the constraints of its own ignorance.

The chrysalis or cocoon, encapsulates a bespoke incubation system, a self designed arrangement of permeable, organic walls, built hastily in response to insecurity and chaos; like an opaque shell it envelopes the vulnerable body, insulating it from invisible dangers outside.

Dormant, the pupa waits enshadowed in static apprehension. Suddenly the chrysalis splits, new light fills the pace, tearing the illusive fabric of home and security asunder. A twisted blend of adrenal excitement and apprehension takes root. The entity must make a decision; either breach the walls of false certainty and fly into the veiled face of truth, Or remain static, coddled in the protective walls of incubated ignorance, afraid only of the inevitable plummet to the ground.
